Mr. Meena and I are living in an extended stay hotel for a year… and it’s a lesson in patience. The cleaning ladies come and do a (scheduled) thorough cleaning once a week, but they often show up when I’m not expecting them. Like when they walked in on me sleeping, woke Mr. Meena and I up last Saturday for new towels, and yesterday they walked in on me in the shower. These are my feelings about the situation.
I love that they leave my hotel room sparkling clean.
I hate sitting around awkwardly while they clean it.
I love that they are careful with our belongings.
I hate when I can’t find something after they leave.
I love having freshly fluffed pillows and blankets.
I hate not being able to change the sheets whenever I want to.
I love that they clean with such attention to detail.
I hate that they enter the room with about two seconds notice.
I love not having to clean my own living space.
I hate not being able to communicate because they only speak German.
I love that they take the trash out.
I hate when they show up unexpectedly to take the trash out.
I love the smell of their laundry detergent.
I hate the smell of their cleaning solution.
I love their efficiency.
I hate when they move my stuff around.
I love being forced to pre-clean so that the floor, counters, and kitchen are clear and ready for their arrival.
I hate being forced to pre-clean so that the floor, counters, and kitchen are clear and ready for their arrival.
I love that my home is clean on a consistent basis for the first time in my life.
I hate feeling disrupted in my home.
The expat life isn’t bad, but there are things about it that can be hard to deal with. Have you ever felt a bit invaded or embarrassed while staying in a hotel? Share in the comments.
